Alleviating Aches and Pains in the Digital Era

What is a Physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists are 1 of the 5 types of clinicians we have at eMed. Our physiotherapists specialise in all things musculoskeletal.  Their skills lie in being able to assess these conditions remotely, and provide up to date information on typical healing times, and treatment plans that can help.

How Does Digital Physiotherapy Work at eMed?

Digital physiotherapy at eMed is performed by our specially trained and registered physiotherapists. Here’s what you can expect from your appointment:

  • Meet one of our physiotherapists remotely via telephone or video consultations through our app.
  • Experience a full assessment on any musculoskeletal condition by demonstrating difficult movements.
  • Gain insight to likely causes of your symptoms.
  • Receive advice, self management and exercise programmes to support your symptoms.

Many problems can be self managed with the correct advice and exercises, and the body’s natural healing times.

If self-management isn't feasible, our physiotherapists can refer patients to other eMed clinician groups, refer to external care providers, and identify when patients may need more urgent care.

What type of patients / issues do you normally see at eMed?

Physiotherapy consultations are helpful for people of all ages and with a wide range of symptoms affecting the bone, muscle, joints, and referred pain from nerves.

For example, the most common things people present with are back and neck pain, shoulder and knee pain and injury, acute and chronic sports injuries. We also see veterans, women's health issues and those with long COVID.

Is Digital Physiotherapy as effective as in person? What are the advantages / limitations?

Our first contact service offers prompt management of musculoskeletal issues, ensuring early intervention and onward referral if needed.

The benefits of digital physiotherapy include:

  • Easy access from wherever you are, so there’s no need to travel.
  • There are no geographical boundaries, so everyone can access our service.
  • No need to take time off work or education.
  • Patients can access instant advice on their problem or injury in a timely manner.
  • There’s no wait, so you can start to recover sooner.
  • Not everyone needs hands-on treatment such as scans, so our service allows personal advice to be provided without the wait.

Some individuals may need more intense support than we provide digitally, however, our physiotherapists are trained to know when it's time to ask you to be seen face to face, which is less common than you might expect.

How can a patient access your support?

To see an eMed Physiotherapist, simply log onto our app and select ‘Book an appointment’. Choose ‘Muscles and Joints’, give a brief description of your issue and select a convenient time for you!
